Obituary: Bonnie Holloman Boone

Bonnie Holloman Boone, 98, of Lugoff, South Carolina, formerly of Kinston, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 2pm at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30pm at Edwards Funeral Home.

Bonnie Adelle Holloman Boone was born May 9th, 1925, in Greene County, NC to Mr. Bennie Holloman and Nancy Smith Holloman. She was the fourth of five children. Bonnie grew up during the Great Depression and while she had the basic necessities of life, she learned the importance of thrift and saving for the future. While still in High School, she worked part-time at Caswell Training Center, helping the mentally disabled.

As the country entered WWII, Bonnie met her future husband, Frederick Boone. Shortly after they were married (Jan 2, 1943) her husband was sent overseas. Frederick would not return home until 1945. During that time, Bonnie would work as a clerk at Belk department store.

After her husband returned from the war, they had three children, Nancy Susan “Susie”, Bonnie Steva, and Frederick Jr “Fred”. She loved the Lord Jesus, her husband, and her children, but was not afraid to apply correction to her children when needed. Bonnie and Frederick had a very close extended family, which meant Susie, Steva, and Fred were blessed with grandparents, uncles, aunts, and a countless number of cousins. We would all meet and benefit from each other’s company and encouragement on many happy occasions.

She and Frederick saw their children grow up and pursue their own diverse, successful careers. In their retirement years, they enjoyed gardening, numerous cross country road trips, but mostly they enjoyed and loved their ten grandchildren: Thom, Julie, Skipper, Stacey, Nathaniel, Ricky, David, Matthew, Sarah, and Becky.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, Frederick; daughter Steva; son-in-law, Larry Letchworth (Susie’s husband); siblings, Lucille, Ben “Nick”, Wesley, and George Kirby.

She is survived by her daughter, Susie; son-in-law, Steve Mervin (Steva’s husband); son Fred and his wife Wendy; along with all her grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Her loving care for all her family and friends will be sorely missed.

Arrangements made by Edwards Funeral Home & Cremations. Online condolences may be expressed at www.edwardsfhc.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
