Mayor Hardy honors community Leaders with Keys to the City at 2024 BBQ Fest

Mayor Dontario Hardy of Kinston bestowed the keys to the city upon several distinguished individuals during the 2024 BBQ Fest on the Neuse in downtown Kinston.

Among the recipients was Mr. Bryan Hanks, recognized for his significant contributions to the community through his extensive involvement in sports broadcasting and community service. Mayor Hardy commended Hanks, stating, "Bryan has been very active in our community, calling all the sports he can in our city and all across the state. He also has an impact on putting information out daily through many different broadcasts."

Expressing gratitude for the honor, Hanks remarked, "I have so many people I want to thank that I'm going to leave somebody out, but my beautiful wife Linda, thank you for everything, baby. Sheriff Jackie Rogers, who has allowed me to serve this community. Thank you so much, Sir."

Another honoree, Mrs. Marva Brown, was celebrated for her lifelong dedication to education and community service spanning over 65 years. Mayor Hardy praised Brown's profound impact, stating, "We do recognize her today with honor and pleasure. We now recognize Mrs. Martha Brown with the mayoral key to the city of Kinston."

In response, Brown expressed her appreciation, stating, "I recognized early in my life that my purpose here on Earth was to serve, and God has blessed me for a number of years to give service in a lot of different areas."

Mr. Martin White, a prominent figure in entrepreneurship, business consulting, and financial coaching, was also honored for his contributions to financial literacy and community empowerment. Mayor Hardy commended White's dedication, stating, "We do appreciate you giving back to your community through various activities."

Additionally, Mr. Wilbur Freddie King, Jr., was recognized for his extensive philanthropy and community impact, particularly through his ownership of King's BBQ. Mayor Hardy thanked King for his generosity and dedication to the community.

Reflecting on the honor, King graciously responded, "Thank you, Mr. Mayor. This may be the first time in my life that I've been at a loss for words, but I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Lastly, Mayor Hardy acknowledged Mr. Jim Seagrave for his entrepreneurial success and philanthropic endeavors, although Seagrave was not present at the event.
