Obituary: Dr. Hubert Gaines Pierce

Dr. Hubert Gaines Pierce, age 91, of Kinston, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. Dr. Pierce was born in Hallsboro, North Carolina on August 21,1932. He attended Mars Hill College for two years and completed his undergraduate education at Wake Forest College in Wake Forest, North Carolina. Afterwards, he attended Bowman Gray School of Medicine, now Wake Forest University School of Medicine, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where he graduated in 1958. He joined the Air Force in 1962 and practiced at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro. In 1965, he moved to Kinston and shortly thereafter founded Kinston Medical Specialists where he continuously practiced until his retirement in 2015 at the age of 82.

Dr. Pierce is survived by his wife of 62 years, Tempie Daniel Pierce, two daughters, Susan Pierce Havens and Ginger Pierce Gaddy (Phillip Vincent Gaddy), and four grandchildren, Madison Kate Havens, Daniel Fielding Havens, Phillip Gaines Gaddy and Jackson Pierce Gaddy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie Pierce and Ola Lee Pierce, and two brothers, William Pierce and Edwin Lee Pierce.

A private graveside service will be held in Evergreen Memorial Park, in Wilson, North Carolina. A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Monday, May 13, 2024, at First Baptist Church, 2600 Rouse Road in Kinston, with a reception to follow in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, 2600 Rouse Road, in Kinston or to Lenoir Hospital Foundation, 100 Airport Road, in Kinston.
