North Lenoir falls to Vance County

HENDERSON | The Hawks are still looking for their first win of the Jim Collins era.

North Lenoir put up a spirited fight, but ultimately fell to Vance County 28-14 Saturday on the road. The Hawks (0-5) started well with a 32-yard interception return for a touchdown by Isiah Warren with 4:16 to go in the first, but the Vipers (2-6) struck back with a pair of second-quarter touchdowns to take a 14-7 lead into halftime. Southern Vance would score again in the third, but with 11:12 to play Christian Young found Ny’Jai Koonce for a 10-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 20-14.

Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Vipers punched it in with 2:50 to play, sealing the game. North Lenoir forced four turnovers, including a trio of interceptions, but it wasn’t enough.

North Lenoir will travel to Ayden-Grifton Oct. 19, in search for a win against the Chargers.
