North Lenoir's "Pink Out" Game with Greene Central moved to Kinston High

North Lenoir’s Pink Out game is moving to a different location.

The Hawks will face the Greene Central Rams Friday at Kinston High School. Due to North Lenoir’s field not being ready for the upcoming contest, an agreement was made between Kinston athletic director Perry Tyndall and North Lenoir athletic director Jackson Massey.

“They’re in a bind with their field and we wanted to help them in any way we could,” Tyndall said. “It’ll be like a home football game at North Lenoir, just played at our place. Their booster club will run the concession stand and the gate, and we’ll make sure they have everything they need. (Massey and I) talked logistical stuff like security, and we’ll be here for them.”

North Lenoir football coach Jim Collins said Hurricane Florence affected the field too much for the Hawks to play in what would’ve been their first home game since Sept. 7, five days before the storm came.

“We had been out on the field trying to get it ready over the past 48 hours,” Collins said. “We had some sinkhole damage from the hurricane and thought to put a ‘band-aid’ on the problem, but upon further review we needed to fix it now. Drain tiles were ripped out and we had to rebuild the boxes from goal line to goal line. We tried to sod it (Tuesday) and we didn’t have time to get it done. Jackson called and Kinston was gracious enough to allow us to keep the gate and run the concession stand.”

Collins said the “Pink Out” concept for the game will still run as scheduled for breast cancer awareness.

“It’s a big night and a very emotional one,” Collins said. “We have kids on the team who have lost parents, friends and grandparents to cancer, or witnessed the battle they had to fight and get it in remission. I lost my mother to cancer and we have coaches who lost family members as well.

“At halftime, kids will be donating eight inches of hair to the organization ‘Children with Hair Loss’ and we’ll be breaking out our pink jerseys on the field.”

Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
