Obituary - George B. Strickland, Jr.

George B. Strickland, Jr.

January 18, 1947 - December 23, 2018

While surrounded by his family, George Beverly Strickland Jr., 71, accepted the call to spend Christmas with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 23, 2018. George was born January 18, 1947 in Lenoir County to the late George Beverly Strickland, Sr. and Carolyn Tyson Strickland.

George’s strong faith and his belief in the power of prayer were the principles that served as his guide through life. He treated others as he wanted to be treated. George was a longtime member of La Grange Christian Church.

Golf was the perfect escape from the daily rigors of life for George. The quote that follows from Arnold Palmer sums up George’s love for golf: “The game has such a hold on golfers because they compete not only against an opponent, but also against the course, against par, and most surely - against themselves.” George made many great friendships on the golf course.

A getaway to the coast to go fishing and floundering was the perfect way to end a week. The tug of a fish on the line, no matter the size always brought a smile. The companionship of family and friends around a card table was something George always looked forward to. Whether he won or lost, the companionship of people he loved is what he enjoyed most.

George’s greatest accomplishments were those of husband, father and grandfather. Taking care of his girls were his number one priority. Their well-being and happiness was always the ultimate goal. Once grandchildren entered the fold, doting on them was a great passion and joy.

A service to celebrate George’s life will be held Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 10 a.m. at La Grange Christian Church. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Brenda Holmes Strickland; two daughters, Shannon White and husband, Sean, Beverly Dawson and husband, Ryan; four grandchildren, Kyle White, Kevin White, Riley Outlaw and Ashton Dawson.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.
