Stroud sworn in as Lenoir County Clerk of Court

On Monday, Dawn G. Stroud was sworn in as the Lenoir County Clerk of Superior Court. 

The ceremony commenced at 7 a.m. in the superior courtroom at the Lenoir County courthouse. Stroud was sworn in by Superior Court Judge and family friend, the Honorable Jeff Foster. Joining Stroud at the ceremony were her husband John and her children Dusk, Smith, Landon and Johnna.

Stroud was first elected Lenoir County Clerk of Superior Court in 2002. Monday's ceremony marks the beginning of her fifth term.

"Words cannot express how humbled I am by the support of my family and the citizens of Lenoir County," Stroud said on Monday.  "I greatly appreciate the opportunity to continue to serving as Lenoir County Clerk of Superior Court."

As Superior Clerk of Court, Stroud's duties include:

  • All clerical/record-keeping functions of the superior court and district court  

  • Collects money for the State on behalf of parties involved in court cases 

  • As judge of probate court, oversees the administration of estates 

  • Presides over special proceedings such as adoptions, determinations of guardianship, foreclosures, along with claim, delivery and partitions of land

  • Coordinates the administration of trusts

  • Administers oaths

  • Summons jurors

  • Nominates magistrates

  • Supervises several assistant/deputy clerks   

"My goal is to continue to provide the best customer service possible while being the most effective, efficient and professional that we can be," Stroud said.
