The Down East Wood Ducks offense has struggled this week, but Saturday it dropped to another low in this recent stretch. The Woodies lost their fourth straight game by only producing three hits in a 4-1 loss to Myrtle Beach at Historic Grainger Stadium. The game was played in front of 2,482 fans who were on hand for a Christmas in July promotion.

LeDarious Clark, Franklin Rollin and Josh Altmann were the only Wood Ducks able to get a hit in the game that dropped the team to 9-15 in the second half, 44-50 overall.

For the second consecutive game, the DEWDs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to a run by Clark. They even loaded the bases in the fifth inning before an inning-ending 5-2-3 double play ended the Wood Ducks threat.

A night after leaving 15 players on base, the Woodies only left two on base Saturday as they went 1-2-3 six innings.

While striking out four and walking one, Jason Bahr lost his first decision of the year with 4.2 innings of three-hit ball; all three runs he surrendered were earned.

Myrtle Beach southpaw starting pitcher Bryan Hudson improved to 6-7 with the victory – three of his wins have come against the Wood Ducks this year. Jhonny Pereda had three of Myrtle Beach’s 10 hits to lead the Pelicans. He also added an RBI, while Kevonte Mitchell had two RBIs and Aramis Ademan had one.

The teams will play the third of the four-game series Sunday at 4 p.m. at Grainger Stadium. It’s Sunday Funday at the park; a pair of select Woodies will sign autographs in the stadium concourse in the pregame and fans 12-and-under will be able to run the bases after the game. Gates open at 3 p.m.
