Six early runs for the Keys (10-19 second half, 45-53 overall) proved too much for the Down East Wood Ducks (9-20, 44-55) Friday night in a 6-3 defeat, marking the Woodies' ninth straight loss. Brendon Davis connected on his fifth homer of the season in the defeat.

The nine consecutive losses continues the longest such streak in franchise history.

The Keys knocked 12 hits off starter Emerson Martinez to match his career high. Frederick did its damage in the second through fourth innings. Yojhan Quevedo led the way as he was not retired and notched a pair of RBIs, including a two-run homer.

The Woodies trailed 6-0 through five innings with only two hits off Keys starter Mike Baumann. He finished his night with six innings of work for his fourth win at the High-A level.

Davis’ homer was his second of the half and his first since June 23 at Winston-Salem. The blast came on an 0-2 offering with two outs in the seventh inning.

Martinez managed to work into the seventh inning to keep the bullpen as fresh as possible. Only Blake Bass was needed from the bullpen and he tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball.

The Woodies managed to plate an unearned run in the ninth off closer Tyler Erwin, but he ultimately ended the contest with the tying run at the plate. 

The road trip continues Saturday as the Woodies travel to Buies Creek for the final time in two seasons for the temporary home of the Astros. First pitch for Saturday is scheduled for 5 p.m.
