Pelicans snap Woodies' winning streak on Sunday
The Down East Wood Ducks (23-39 second half, 58-74 overall) saw their five-game winning streak grind to an end with a 4-1 loss to Myrtle Beach (25-37, 59-73) in front of 1,471 fans at Historic Grainger Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Woodies, coming off a historic 16-0 rout of the Pelicans Saturday night, were only able to manage three hits in Sunday’s game. Brendon Davis’ sacrifice fly in the eighth inning that scored Ricky Valencia brought the Woodies’ to within 2-1, but that’s as close as they’d get.
Valencia, Leody Taveras and Yanio Perez managed the only hits for DEWD while southpaw Tyler Thomas earned the loss on the mound by giving up four hits and two earned runs in four innings of work.
Second baseman Christian Donahue was two-for-four with two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Pelicans.
The Woodies hit the road for a four-game set in Zebulon against the Carolina Mudcats then return home for the final series of the 2018 season against the Winston-Salem Dash on Friday.
