Kinston shooting suspect arrested
On August 1, 2018, at approximately 12:27 am, officers from the Kinston Police Department responded to the intersection of N. Adkin Street and E. Washington Avenue in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an occupied vehicle that had been shot. The occupants in the vehicle were not injured during the shooting. The suspect(s) involved in the shooting were in a separate vehicle and were gone upon the officer’s arrival.
Shortly thereafter, officers from the Kinston Police Department responded to UNC-Lenoir in reference to a subject with a gunshot wound to the hand. The subject, Arventiono Lawson, advised law enforcement personnel that he had been shot while he was walking along Queen Street. Lawson was uncooperative with the investigation.
Further investigation revealed Arventiono Lawson was involved with the shooting that took place at the intersection of N. Adkin Street and E. Washington Avenue.
On August 2, 2018, an arrest warrant was issued on Lawson for (2) counts of Attempted Murder, Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Motor Vehicle, Possession of Firearm by Felon, Injury to Personal Property and Filing a False Police Report.
On August 3, 2018, at approximately 8:15 AM, officers from the Kinston Police Department and US Marshal Task Force arrested Lawson at his residence, 805 West Highland Ave. in Kinston.
Lawson was placed in the Lenoir County Detention Center under no bond. This incident is still under investigation.
