Cal Addy has been thankful for the local community.

Addy, a lineman from New York, was injured during Hurricane Florence working on a power line in the Falling Creek area. Addy suffered a fractured arm and a back injury in the fall and spent four days at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where his condition was upgraded from “critical” to “stable”.

Addy is back in New York receiving additional treatment and said he has been amazed by the support from those in Eastern North Carolina.

“It’s been remarkable,” Addy said. “I want to thank everyone in the community for the outpouring, their concerns and everything. It’s been incredible.”

Addy, 23, comes from a lineage of linemen and while he has worked multiple storms, Florence was his first hurricane.

“It’s a family thing,” Addy said. “My grandfather was a lineman, my dad and uncle are currently linemen and have been in the business for 30 years. My brother was interested in the trade, but unfortunately he passed away. I was looking to follow in their footsteps.”

Addy has spinal fusion surgery scheduled for Wednesday in New York and he is optimistic about getting back into the field after recovering.

“I plan to continue working as a lineman,” Addy said. “I can’t thank the people here enough for caring about me.”
