The citizens and pets of Lenoir County need your help in garnering supplies.

In the wake of Hurricane Florence, supplies at shelters have begun to dissipate. In response, the American Red Cross has set up a donation center at Fairfield Community Center on Greenbriar Road.

Cassie Canady, coordinator for the American Red Cross Distribution of Emergency Supplies, said many are items needed for the more than 500 people currently housed at the Lenoir Community College shelter.

“We’re going to be needing diapers, wipes, hygiene products, washcloths, towels and anything else you can think of," Canady said.

LCC is also taking care of animals displaced by the storm. Tammy Kelly, Lenoir County Cooperative Extension director, said there are many needs at the shelter, which harbored more than 50 dogs and cats as of Monday.

“We will take any donations — cat food, dog food, kitty litter, towels, Clorox and ammonia-free cleaning supplies,” Kelly said. “Anything extra will be donated to the SPCA, so if we have a surplus it won’t go to waste.”
