Obituary - Clarice Loftin Pollock Davenport
Kinston – Clarice Loftin Pollock Davenport, age 95, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2018. She was born April 15, 1923 in Jones County to the late Hugh and Lila Loftin and was one of nine children of which seven have preceded her in death. Surviving siblings include Dalton Loftin and wife Judy of Haw River and Garland Loftin and wife Hazel of Kinston.
Clarice graduated from Trenton High School in 1940. In 1954, she went to work for the U.S. Dept of Agriculture Farmers Home Administration, from which she retired after 30 years of service. In 1947, she wed the late Fred Rogers Pollock and they were married for 48 years until his passing in 1995.
She is survived by their three children, Charles Pollock and wife Brenda of Kinston, Ronald Pollock and wife Patricia of Louisburg, and daughter Teresa Pollock Rickert of Garner. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Lisa Pollock Jones and husband Andy, Rebecca Pollock who is predeceased in death, Stacy Pollock Johnson and husband Jon, Tyler Pollock and wife Jill, David Pollock Mills and husband Robert Sanderlin, Amy Mills Lehr and husband Fritz. In addition, Clarice was blessed with eight great grandchildren. She is also predeceased in death by her second husband of 13 years, William H. Davenport, with whom she shared many happy years in Kinston.
Clarice was a dedicated church member to Trenton United Methodist Church and later Gordon Street Christian Church. She loved big band music, singing in the choir, gardening but most of all she loved her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and a generous and caring friend to all who knew her.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 22, at 2pm at Gordon Street Christian Church, 118 E. Gordon St, Kinston NC 28501. The family will receive friends following the service. A graveside service will be held at Trenton Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trenton United Methodist Church music department or the Gordon Street Christian Church music department.
