Hurricane Florence recovery update 9/24/2018

  • Revised list of Points of Distribution (PODs)

  • Central Distribution Point

    Our central distribution point for supplies is the Jones County Civic Center - 832 Hwy 58 South, Trenton, NC 28585. Please contact Wes Smith to coordinate. Unfortunately our main phone lines went out again yesterday. Contact him on his cell until the phones are back up. ‭(252) 402-0162‬. Or email wsmith@jonescountync.gov. We will be sorting these supplies out and taking them to the designated distribution points across the county. Thanks again for all those who have supported Jones County throughout this disaster.

  • Jones County Courthouse

    The Jones County Courthouse will be closed for the rest of the week 9/24/18-9/28/18. Crews have been working through the weekend to mitigate the damages. This includes the Clerks Office and Register of Deeds.

Duplin County as of 09/24/2018 at 4:05 p.m.

  • Hay distribution sites

    Hay distribution sites are available Monday, September 24th, at Williamsdale Farms, 7624 NC Hwy 41, Wallace and at the Duplin County Livestock Arena (beside the Events Center). 9am to 4pm at both locations.

  • Water

    If you are a county water customer and are still experiencing discolored water, please feel free to comment with your address or location. We will report concerns to the Water Department. While we are under the Boil Water Advisory, please remember to bring water to a rolling boil for at least 60 seconds prior to consuming.

  • Solid Waste Convenience Sites

    All nine Lenoir County solid waste convenience sites are open with their regular operating hours.

  • Waste by Road

    The county would also like to advise you to divide your waste you are leaving by the road into four piles:
    * Yard debris (limbs, etc.); wood and limbs must be cut into 8-feet long or shorter
    * Appliances
    * Construction debris (C/D)
    * Furniture (including mattresses)

  • Emergency Field Hospital and Point of Distribution at SLHS

    The emergency field hospital and the Point of Distribution at South Lenoir Hospital will cease operations at 11:59 p.m, today (Monday, September 24, 2018)

  • Courts

    All Lenoir County courts will reopen at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 25.

  • Disaster Food and Nutrition (D-SNAP)

    Applications for Disaster Food and Nutrition (D-SNAP) benefits are being accepted on the following dates: 
    * Friday, Sept. 28, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
    * Saturday, Sept. 29 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
    * Monday, Oct. 1 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
    * Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
    * Wednesday, Oct. 3 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
    * Thursday, Oct. 4 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
    * Friday, Oct. 5 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
    * Saturday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

    D-SNAP Application Centers will be located at the following locations:
    * Kinston – Vernon Park Mall (Old Eckerd Drug Store), 534 Hardee Road, Kinston
    * La Grange – La Grange Community Center,410 E. Washington Street, La Grange
    * Pink Hill – Pink Hill Town Hall, 303 S. Central Avenue, Pink Hill

    Disaster Food Stamps are authorized for eligible households not currently receiving Food and Nutrition Benefits that have experienced a loss as a result of Hurricane Florence / Neuse River Flooding that affected areas of Lenoir County on Sept. 13, 2018.

    Residents may qualify for D-SNAP benefits assistance if their home was damaged or destroyed, they have disaster-related expenses, or they lost income or had food loss as a result of a power outage resulting from Hurricane Florence.

    Lenoir County Social Services Director Jeff Harrison encourages families who have been affected by Hurricane Florence and storm-related power outages to apply for the benefits as soon as possible. The benefits are designed to provide one month of food per household. Eligibility is based on income and resources on hand for all members of the household. 

    Residents currently receiving food stamp benefits, including those requesting Replacement Benefits, are not eligible for this disaster program. 

    Individuals applying will be asked to provide verification of identity. This does not need to be picture identification; any document showing their name, such as utility or another bill, will be accepted. 

    Other information you will need includes your home address and the names of all household members and their social security numbers. You will also need to provide income and resource information. 

    It is very important you give complete and accurate information during the application/interview process. Your application is subject to review by state and/or federal personnel. If you break the Food and Nutrition Services Program Rules, you will be required to repay the benefits. You may also be taken to court and fined, sent to prison, or both. 

    Because long lines and wait times are possible, individuals are encouraged to bring medications and other necessary items. Due to limited space, individuals are encouraged to limit the number of people accompanying them and to consider arranging for child care if possible. Residents should come prepared for inclement weather while waiting outdoors as no outdoor shelter will be available for those waiting in line. 

    If your Disaster Food Stamp application is approved, you will receive a Food and Nutrition Services Electronic Benefits Card (EBT). If your application is approved, your card will be activated and you will receive an approval notice in the mail. If your application is denied, you will receive a denial notice with the reason for the denial of benefits.

    Superior Criminal Court for the week of September 24,2018 has been canceled.

    The jury has been released.

  • LCC and Jones County Center

    LCC and Jones County Center are closed Monday, Sept. 24. Greene County Center and La Grange Center will be open Monday on their regular schedule.

  • Greene County Schools

    Greene County Schools will operated a regular schedule for Monday September 24, 2018.
