TRENTON | Lenoir Community College and Vidant Medical Center teamed up to feed hundreds in Jones County on Wednesday.

The organizations served 500 plates of food at the LCC Jones County Center, offering nourishment to those affected by Hurricane Florence.

“We wanted to serve the people of Jones County, sending plates to those in Trenton, Maysville, Comfort, and Pollocksville,” LCC Continuing Education Dean Renee Sutton said. “We wanted to do our part to give back.”

LCC vice president of continuing education, Dr. Jay Carraway, shared similar sentiments about those affected by Hurricane Florence and trying to assist where they could.

“We want them to know they’re not in this situation by themselves and we want to do our part to help wherever we can,” Carraway said.

Carraway and Vidant cardiologist Dr. Pradeep Arumugham were credited with helping organize the event, with the two organizations looking to showcase their presence in the community.

“We’re part of the community and this is something we knew we needed to do in Jones County,” Arumugham said. “Fortunately, we were able to team up with LCC, with them providing the manpower for this to happen.”

Medical oncology specialist Dr. Peter Watson said it was all about helping those who needed it the most.

“We’ve been serving the Jones and Onslow communities since the 1960s, and we have personal relationships with those affected by the hurricane,” Watson said. “They were hit hard and we’re definitely hurting for them.”
