As Lenoir Community College has been functioning as a shelter, the Lancer volleyball players have found a new place to practice.

This week, LCC has been using Arendell Parrott’s gym in order to get back into a routine. Due to Hurricane Florence, the Lancers haven’t played since a Sept. 11 matchup against Pitt Community College and had five games postponed in the process.

While Lenoir Community College has been functioning as a shelter, the Lancer volleyball players have found a new place to practice.

This week, LCC has been using Arendell Parrott Academy’s gym in order to get back into a routine. Due to Hurricane Florence, the Lancers haven’t played since a Sept. 11 matchup against Pitt Community College and had five games postponed in the process.

For now, the team is working on rebuilding chemistry which had been lost a bit due to the storm.

“We’ve been off for a while, so we just have to adjust and get back to playing as a team,” Jennifer Sparks said.

LCC’s Laura Jenkins said she believes the team will be back to playing on its own court soon, which will help the transition even more.

“It’s been slow with us not being in our gym, but it feels a lot better being able to practice,” Jenkins said. “Being off since the 11th, we’ve had to get back to remembering we’ve got practice, but at the end everything’s good.”

Lancers assistant coach Kelsey Worthington ran Tuesday’s practice and said while there’s work to do, she likes the team’s chances when play resumes.

“We’ve got to work hard and rep what we need to get back to, serving and passing,” Worthington said. “I’m pretty optimistic about the team — they can definitely win a lot of games. We have to make up the ones we missed, but if they put in the time, we can do it.”

LCC’s next scheduled game is on the road Tuesday against Wake Tech. The Lancers will also look to play a doubleheader on Oct. 6 at home against USC-Lancaster and Fayetteville Technical CC.
