Neuse News numbers rise dramatically to end January

The interaction for Neuse News has exploded over the past two weeks.

Between Jan. 18-31, 467 people subscribed to the Neuse Newsletter, a daily 7:00 a.m. summary of the latest headlines.

Over the past 90 days, there have been 191,731 unique visitors on www.neusenews.com and 348,831 page views. Of those views, 77 percent of the traffic was mobile and 60 percent came from links on Facebook.

“The market continues to prove the majority of us keep our smart phones within an arms length, even during the middle of the night,” Neuse News Publisher B.J. Murphy said. “Therefore, we strive daily to find ways to tell our area’s stories in a mobile-first format.

“Our goal is to be accurate first, then fast.”

Neuse News Editor Bryan Hanks echoed Murphy’s sentiment.

“B.J. has made it clear to all of us — he doesn’t care if we’re first, he wants us to make certain we’re 100 percent accurate,” Hanks said. “That is our mission as journalists and it’s one he’s made crystal clear to us. I’m certain that’s why we’ve been so successful in our first seven months.

“Our community appreciates the huge void we’ve filled in providing true journalism that had been sorely missed before he started this venture.”

As Neuse News heads into its seventh month of service to the community, Murphy said there will be additional measures taken to ensure growth and success from a creative standpoint.

“Our team’s culture encourages the freedom to learn more skills and try new methods to adapt our storytelling to the demands of the market, whether it’s a podcast, blog-style video or Facebook Live event,” Murphy said.
