Lenoir Community College is offering a six-week course, Aerostructure CNC Operator, beginning January 7, 2020 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. at LCC. All successful completers of the course will be guaranteed an interview with Spirit AeroSystems.

“This is a great opportunity for someone interested in getting a foot in the door in the Aerostructure industry to come in, do well, and take advantage of the guaranteed interview,” said LCC Industrial Technologies Dean Dr. Maggie Brown. “Spirit is very motivated to hire individuals who want to grow within their company and develop specialized skills.”

LCC Computer-Integrated Machining Program Chair Andrew Luppino said this course will train students how to safely setup and operate CNC machines for the purposes of producing quality components.  “Students will get the opportunity to make parts on a CNC machine, as well as learn about additive manufacturing processes.”

“Attracting and retaining a skilled workforce is a critical challenge facing employers in Eastern North Carolina, particularly in high-demand industries like aerospace and advanced manufacturing, said Spirit Human Resources and Environmental, Health and Safety Senior Leader Brian A. Black. “This program is designed to help develop our local students to fill the gap.”

Students enrolled in the six-week course will have Friday site visits and job shadowing experiences with Spirit AeroSystems.

The cost of the course is $130; however, tuition assistance may be available for qualified individuals. For more information, contact Brown at 252 527-6223, ext. 721 or email at mlbrown46@lenoircc.edu.
