I am sure most of you will agree that we are witnessing a movement toward socialism in America today, but this is nothing new.

During my campaign for the U.S. Congress many years ago, I made these comments:  "There are those in this country who are calling for permanent economic equality to be guaranteed to all citizens at the expense of government. But those who are making this call are in fact calling for socialism, which is defined as a social organization in which all goods are held in common and in which all citizens are, by law, made and kept permanently economically equal. But this a Republic in which we live — a Republic — guaranteeing the right to free enterprise and the right to earn and possess private capital.  To implement Socialism would be to destroy incentive, initiative, and ambition by bringing accomplishments down to the level of the least ambitious." 

Now let's move forward to today, where we are hearing a lot of talk about the Green New Deal, which editor and writer Jarrett Stepman has described as little more than socialism masked as economic policy.  Economist Charles Steele of Hillsdale College pointed out the following: 

“The Green New Deal is costly, ineffective and extremely dangerous. Among its many other detrimental effects, it would have a major impact on our energy sources. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, fossil fuels generate more than 62 percent of our electricity (30 percent by coal and 32 percent by natural gas). What this means is that this ‘deal’ would eliminate nearly two-thirds of America's energy sources, which would lead to a complete government takeover of the Energy Sector.”

It would appear that what U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasia-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and other proponents of this "deal" are really seeking to do here is to abolish greenhouse gas emissions by making air travel obsolete and then going to high speed rail service, this in the face of the recent cost and total failure of California's "Bullet Train to Nowhere." 

There are many other parts of this proposal which I am convinced the great majority of Americans have no desire for, such as post-birth abortion, the abolition of private health insurance, anti-Semitism, phasing out airplanes, rebuilding every structure in America and destroying our current sources of energy. I predict our voices will be heard loudly and clearly in next year's elections.

Now to close on a humorous note (courtesy, baba-mail) with the moral being to stay out of other people's business: There's a guy sitting at a bar, just looking at his drink. He stays like that for half an hour. Soon, a big trouble-making truck driver steps next to him, takes the drink from the guy, and just drinks it all down. 

The poor man starts crying. The truck driver says, "Come on, man, I was just joking. Here, I'll buy you another drink. I just can't stand to see a man crying." 

The man replied, "No, it's not that. This day has been the worst of my life. First, I fall asleep and I'm late to the office. My boss, in an outrage, fires me. When I leave the building to my car, I find out it was stolen. 

“The police say they doubt they can find the thief anytime soon. I get a cab to return home and when I leave the cab I discover I have left my wallet and credit cards in the taxi. 

“The cab driver just drives away. I go into my home and find a note from my wife saying she has left me. I leave home and come to this bar and while I was thinking about putting an end to my life, you show up and drink my poison!"
