'Just Like You' teaches children about jobs

Keosha Sath (formerly Whitfield) is a 29-year-old author and Kinston native who attended North Lenoir High School and later East Carolina University, graduating with a bachelors degree in criminal justice.

Sath currently lives in Monrovia, Md., and works for the federal government in Washington D.C. She and her husband Darin have one daughter, with another scheduled for arrival this month.

"My daughter is very inquisitive and she told me she wanted to be a doctor," Sath said. "I was so surprised I asked her if she really wanted to be a doctor and she replied 'I think so', which inspired and set the tone for the book, which is a mother and daughter holding a conversation (about careers)."

Sath recently wrote “Just Like You;” she said it took 20 minutes to write the text of the book, but eight months for full production, including artwork.

"The publisher I used is a one-stop-shop, so I was able to choose a style of art that fit the story," Sath said.

Sath describes “Just Like You” as an educational story that teaches children about the many important jobs that grown-ups do.

"It empowers young girls especially by showing they can go into any field they want," Sath said. "It also encourages girls to think about obtaining science, technology, engineering and mathematics jobs, as there is a shortage of women in these fields."

“Just Like You” has received positive press from online review sites such as Engineering Emily and Babies to Bookworms. The book is available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Mascot Books.
