Farmer's Market Update for 4/27/2019
What’s at the Farmer’s Market?
The Homegrown Festival, a day of health and music, will be held at the Lenoir County Farmers Market today, April 27!
Curtis Media Group has teamed up with UNC Lenoir Health Care for its inaugural Homegrown Festival, which lasts from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The focus of the event is on healthy living choices and while the event is free, vendors will have items for sale.
There will also be live music, with Kinston blues artist Cliff Grant and New Bern country singer Bryan Mayer performing simultaneously throughout.
”We thought this would be a great way to give back to the community and enhance the Farmer’s Market,” Curtis Media Group’s Raine Tyndall said. “This also allows people to see what we have to offer — a lot of them don’t know they can pick up things such as honey, fresh flowers and homemade soap here besides the produce.
“The hospital will also have a demonstration, encouraging healthy living and trying to promote it.”
In addition to all the excitement of the Homegrown event, there will be lots of delicious strawberries, asparagus, turnips, mustard and henpeck, along with many specialty vegetables grown by Brothers Farm. Our special guests will be Kelly Tyndall from the Cooperative Extension Office, who will explain the merits of and sample some dishes from the Mediterranean Diet. Chloe Albritton will bring freshly baked baguettes which can be had for a donation to her latest project.
Also at the Farmer’s Market will be Jamie Karolich. Karolich is a visiting artist from New Mexico who is currently participating in the SmArt Kinston Artist Residency Program. Karolich is a printmaker and will lead a short demo for visitors to print their own reusable farmers market tote bag using real vegetables to print patterns onto their totes. Each participant will leave with their personalized, printed tote!
