Holloway Rec Center Pool set to open Saturday afternoon

It’s officially pool season at Holloway Recreation Center.

The pool will be open Saturday at 2 p.m. for the public and will be accessible until 5 p.m. Open swim is free from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day and the pool will be open until mid-August. There will also be transportation from the Emma Webb area starting at 1:30 p.m. and continuing each hour until 3:30 p.m., with children being transported back at 5 p.m.

“We’re excited to have the Holloway Recreation Center pool open again,” Kinston-Lenoir County Parks and Recreation Director Corey Povar said. “All the lifeguards have been hired, the inspections have been taken care of and we’re ready to rock and roll.”

Program Supervisor Josh Bass said there will be camps and swimming lessons in the coming weeks as well.

“During the week, there will be camp swims from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and the kids must be scheduled in a camp,” Bass said. “We’ll also have two sets of swimming lessons — one in June, another in July — for $10 in a two-week session.

“Overall, we’re ready to open this up for the kids. I know it’s been hot outside, and everyone wants to have a good time. We’ve just finished our in-service (maintenance) and have a few new lifeguards to start the season.”

For camp information, contact the Kinston-Lenoir County Parks and Recreation department at 252-939-3332. For more information on the swim lessons, Bass can be reached at 252-939-3338.
