BETHEL CHRISTIAN DOMINATES IN SEASON-OPENER

Bethel Christian was on a mission in its season opener.

The Trojans defeated Pungo Christian 64-0, shutting the Raiders out for the second straight season. On Oct. 19, 2018, Bethel Christian won 54-0 and eclipsed the point total by halftime, going up 56-0.

Josh Sutton led the way with five carries for 179 yards and three touchdowns, along with a pick-6 defensively. Rodney Warren, Zack Boyd, Logan Bullock and Jaylen Sims all had rushing touchdowns for the Trojans, who converted on all eight of their two-point conversions and faced just one third down all game.

Defensively, Bethel Christian amassed seven sacks, forced three turnovers and allowed -8 yards offensively. Connor Williams had three sacks with Boyd, Bullock, Gabe Gurley and Cooper Emory adding one each. Easton Truett also had an interception.

Bethel Christian faces Wilson Community Christian at home Sept. 6.

AYDEN-GRIFTON’S SEASON-OPENER TO RESUME MONDAY

AYDEN — The game between Ayden-Grifton and Chocowinity Southside was postponed due to lightning storms.

The game was stopped with 5:09 in the second quarter and the teams were still scoreless. As a result, the contest will continue at that point Monday at 6 p.m.

 JONES SENIOR FALLS TO LEJEUNE

LEJEUNE — One team was going to break a long skid Friday.

Unfortunately for Jones Senior, Lejuene snapped its 33-game losing streak with a 62-0 victory. The Devil Pups scored all of their points in the first half and got revenge against the Trojans, who won 76-0 in the previous meeting on Oct. 6, 2016.

Jones Senior will travel to South Lenoir to take on the Blue Devils Aug. 29 with hopes of ending a 23-game skid.
