Whether you’ve read eBooks through our library in the past, or you’re a new user ready to explore the rapidly growing world of digital libraries, Neuse Regional Library would like to introduce you to an exciting new service that is getting rave reviews from our users.

The Library has recently joined the E-iNC Digital Library Consortium, which makes thousands of eBooks, eAudio, and eMagazines available to library cardholders. A state-wide partnership with select public libraries and digital content distributor OverDrive, this service provides library users with access to more than 23,416 eBooks, 2,728 eAudio titles, and 701 eMagazine issues and counting.

To check out titles simply visit e-inc.overdrive.com or download Libby, an award-winning one-tap reading app. This service is compatible with all major computers and devices including iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, and Kindles. All titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period and there are no late fees.

“I am extremely excited to finally be able to check out library materials on my Paperwhite Kindle, which is how I prefer to read eBooks,” said Dennis Cray, a longtime user of the Library’s digital services. “Paperwhite devices have many benefits, including longer battery life and less eye strain, so it’s great to finally be able to use them with my library card.”

The Library will be offering multiple demonstrations of this new service in September at all locations of the Neuse Regional Library System. For a full list of dates and times, please visit the Library’s website at www.neuselibrary.org. Bring your device for personalized instruction on how to download the Libby app and get started using this exciting new service.

While you’re checking out the Library’s digital services, try out Universal Class as well. Another new addition, Universal Class provides access to lifelong learning courses in over 30 subject areas, many of which offer continuing education units (CEUs). More than 500 courses are available, and all are designed and led by professional instructors to build deeper understanding and mastery of subject matter.

Universal Class includes videos, assignments, quizzes, tests, and options for social media interaction with other learners. Patrons may take multiple classes and learn at their own pace. From technical courses on computer software to digital photography to babysitting 101, a huge range of topics is available, including Exercise and Fitness, Entrepreneurship, Arts and Music, Home and Garden Care, Cooking, Computers and Technology, Health and Medicine, Homeschooling, Job Assistance, Law and Legal, Parenting and Family, Pet and Animal Care, plus hundreds more. To access Universal Class, visit the Databases section of the Library’s website at www.neuselibrary.org.

You must have a library card to use these services, but if you don’t have one, it’s a great time to sign up. September is National Library Card Sign-Up month. Come to any of the Neuse Regional Libraries to sign up and enter our month-long raffle for a $20 Walmart gift card. Existing library card holders who do not have fines can also enter the raffle.
