Ny’Jai Koonce, North Lenoir, football

Koonce was instrumental on both sides of the ball in the Hawks’ wins last week. The senior had two rushing touchdowns and two interceptions in a 47-0 win over East Carteret Sept. 17, then followed with a touchdown and interception against Eastern Wayne in a 21-20 victory three days later.

Emily Dykes, Ayden-Grifton, volleyball

Dykes had a pair of big games for the Chargers last week, who continued their undefeated streak in the Eastern Carolina Conference. The senior had 14 kills in a victory over South Lenoir Sept. 17, then added 11 kills and three blocks in a win against North Lenoir two days later.
