Greene County residents without power after Dorian

SNOW HILL - Nearly 400 residents remain without power in Greene County after Dorian churned its way toward the Outer Banks early Friday morning.

Crews from Pitt-Greene Electrical Membership Corporation (EMC) assessed the damage, including electrical stations. Most of the outage remains in Walstonburg, where 281 residents lost power before midnight Thursday.

Berry Anderson, director of the county's emergency management services, said first responders handled 15 calls. Nine residents reported trees down. There were two car accidents - one hydroplaned vehicle and one overturned vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Flash flooding occurred, as expected.

Department of Transportation (DOT) officials inspected roads in the county this morning. In Maury, both directions are closed on Judge Hardy Street due to a downed tree.

"We were blessed," Anderson said.

Greene Central High School closed as a shelter at 9 this morning. Anderson said all of the residents signed out and returned safely to their homes.
