Help wanted: Youth services STEM programming coordinator

Job Class:
Part Time (28 hours per week) Rate of Pay: $15.00 an hour Direct Supervisor:
Head of Youth Services Hours: Monday-Thursday 10:30 am to 6:00 pm (May be asked to represent the Library at community events. May involve some evening or weekend hours.)

Rate of Pay: $15.00 an hour Note: Grant funded position beginning August 1, 2020-August 31, 2022 with possibility of continuation of position. Successful community programming is one of the pillars of library service for the Neuse Regional Libraries. You will be responsible for taking the lead in coordinating, planning, and executing programming that is educational, entertaining, and enriching for children at the Pink Hill Public Library and STEM 4 ALL locations. This programming will be held after school and during summer breaks and will include a major reading component which will be designed to combat the “summer slide,” or deterioration in literacy skills, that has been measured in children during extended time away from school such as summer vacations.

• You plan and execute STEM afterschool programs, homework help, and participatory experiences for children and young adults at the Pink Hill Public Library.
• You will assist Teen Librarian with the Library’s existing STEM 4 All program at housing facilities in the City of Kinston, and will empower that program to expand to a second location.
• You work collaboratively with other members of the Library staff to generate program ideas and coordinate development.
• You cultivate relationships with community members and organizations to provide enrichment activities to students.
• You work closely with members of the Library Marketing Team to promote Library events.
• You provide friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful library services to our patrons while working the public desk. This could include: reference questions, reader’s advisory, technology assistance, circulation of materials, and more.

Education and/or Other Requirements:
• Prefer college degree with relevant work experience.
• Digital literacy and STEM knowledge.
• Knowledge of educational best practices and classroom management techniques.
• Customer service or public interaction experience.
• Must hold a valid North Carolina Driver’s License. Working Conditions: Physical Demands: Position involves a considerable amount of movement and activity. Work routinely involves lifting or handling material weighing up to 15 lbs., using computer, occasional travel to other work locations, and transporting materials and equipment relating to programming and outreach services.
