Greene County Stem program helps brighten Christmas for kids

See this content in the original post

Each year the Greene County Middle School Jr. STEM Ambassadors and advisor Samantha Haislip host a toy drive for Toys For Tots.  This year will be the sixth year that the students have organized the event to collect toys for local families in need.  Students help assemble and wrap boxes, create flyers, and publicize the event.

In years past, they have also placed boxes at local organizations such as Greene Ridge Racquet Club, Ribeyes Steakhouse, Dollar General, etc., but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year they are only collecting at the school.

The ambassadors also set a goal for each school year of how many toys they hope to collect, but each year surpass the goal.  The ambassadors also create friendly competitions each year amongst the grade levels or classes in hopes of promoting the program.

Once the toys have been collected, the ambassadors gather the toys and send them to the Greene County Department of Social Services, which is a county drop off center.  This year's collection will run from November 16th through December 15th.

A group of the Jr. STEM ambassadors will deliver the toys to the GC Department of Social Services on Friday, December 18th.  The GCHS STEM Ambassadors are also collecting toys through December 15th.

Please consider dropping off new, unwrapped toys at either School prior to December 15th.
