UPDATE: 4/20 AT 6:30 AM

The severe weather threat has diminished some for this morning's thunderstorm potential. The greatest threat area will be found mainly for far southern portions of Eastern NC, and especially over the coastal waters. There is still a chance that a storm or two could migrate onshore and become severe, with the main threat damaging winds and an isolated tornado.

The latest briefing from the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City states, “We continue to monitor the potential for severe weather through Monday afternoon. While strong to severe storms remain possible overnight tonight, our greatest concern for severe weather is late tomorrow morning through early afternoon. We have refined our expected timing and impacts in our latest briefing slide, which is attached. Still, some uncertainty remains in the coverage of severe weather, which is dependent on the track of an area of low pressure crossing the area.”
