Promless: Parrott Class of 2020 has “Novel” Senior Spring
This year’s Parrott prom theme was supposed to be “Starry Night.”
Thursday, April 9, Parrott Academy’s Student Activity Center was supposed to be filled with glitter and glamour and the sounds of the band Liquid Pleasure as juniors and seniors enjoyed the annual prom. It’s a rite of spring on the Kinston school’s campus, and throughout April and May for almost every high school in eastern North Carolina. But Covid-19 has the Class of 2020 finishing their last high school semester at home, without the traditional activities of a senior spring.
The zany “prom-posals” had barely begun when Parrott transitioned to an on-line learning environment in mid-March. And though the junior class had already chosen “Starry Night” for a prom theme, they wouldn’t enjoy the decorating marathon that transforms a school facility into a romantic destination.
Other losses of “Senior Spring”? Beach weekend. “That would probably be one of the last times senior girls could have a big sleepover and all be together,” mused APA senior Miller Andrews.
