Lenoir County restaurant inspections

The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

The Farmhouse

3486 Old Hwy 11 

Score: 100 

Inspection date: 6/10 

Observations:

No handwash signage posted at hand sinks. All hand sinks shall have proper handwash signage. - signage provided 

Some foods in fridge and prep unit were above 41F or below. All potentially hazardous foods in cold holding shall be 41F or below. Use smaller portions, ice baths, thin layers, or other approved methods to keep food below 41F. – discussed using TPHC

Men’s restroom has 11 foot candles of light. Restrooms shall have 30 foot candles of light. Replace bulbs or add lighting to reach 30 foot candles.

Amy’s Kitchen

3264 Doug Drive 

Score: 100 

Inspection date: 5/20 

Observations: 

Soiled linens stored on floor. Store solid linens in a clean non-absorbent receptacle. 

Window sill in restroom needs additional cleaning. Shall be clean to sight and touch. Clean as often as needed.

 

The Corner Deli 

200 N Kinston Blvd 

Score: 98.0 

Inspection date: 5/20 

Observations: 

Inside of microwave needs additional cleaning. Clean microwave every 24 hours or more often as needed. 

Available thermometer was broken and unusable. A replacement was brought in from another store. Working thermometers shall be available at all times. 

Excessive flies present. Use approved pest control devices/methods to eliminate flies. 

Wet wiping clothes held in soapy water. When not in use, hold wet wiping cloths in sanitizer solution. Sanitizer shall be 200-400 ppm quaternary ammonia. 

Hot dog boats stored right side up. Store hot dog boats face down, covered, or in plastic to prevent contamination. All single-use and single-service articles shall be stored inverted, covered, or in plastic to prevent contamination. 

Gasket on right door of prep unit is coming off. Equipment shall be in good repair. Have gasket repaired or replaced. 

Lid of dumpster is broken. Dumpsters shall be in good repair. Have lids repaired or replaced. 

Dumpster lid was open. Dumpster lid shall remain closed when not in use. Close dumpster when not in use.

Creekside Café

2359 Falling Creek Road 

Score: 99.5 

Inspection date: 5/22 

Observations: 

Employee touched paper towel machine after washing hands. Use a barrier, elbow, etc. to get paper towels or pre-dispense paper towels before washing hands in order to avoid re-contaminating hands. 

Chicken salad and chili were not date marked. Employee stated labels had fallen off. Ensure that all potentially hazardous foods kept over 24 hours have a date mark. Remember to date mark hot dogs once package is opened. 

No test strips available. Test strips shall be available at all times. 

Discussed spacing of tables and adding markers on floor. 

Reviewed proper labeling for sandwiches and provided written sample. 

Person in charge states banquet hall kitchen is used for food storage only.

 

Plaza Garibaldi 

1746 Hwy 11/55 

Score: 96 

Inspection date: 5/21 

Observations: 

No certified food protection manager present. A certified food protection manager shall be present at all times. 

Person in charge does not wash hands when required. Wash hands after handling raw foods and when entering or leaving the kitchen or mobile food unit. 

Some pots and pans had small pieces of dried food. Cutting board used for raw meat was not sanitized properly. Wash, rinse, and sanitize pots and pans and other utensils as specified in the NC Food Code. 

Storage containers have grit/dirt in the corner. Bottom of reach-in freezer has residue from food. Non-food contact services shall be clean to sight and touch. Clean as often as necessary. 

Dumpster does not have a drain plug. 

Employee personal items stored with items for restaurant. Store employee items in a designated area away from items for restaurant.
