SECU acquires land near Walmart for future branch site

The State Employees Credit Union (SECU) has purchased a plot of land in Kinston.

“We were excited to help them with their search and that location. We are looking forward to their continued contributions to our community,” said Perry Management, Inc. Vice President Gram Spear.

The property purchase was confirmed by Lara Lang-Tribula, SECU Senior Vice President in Kinston.

“Yes, SECU recently purchased land located on Hill Farm Road,” said Lang-Tribula.

There are currently two SECU locations in Kinston, one located at 210 Airport Road, and the other at 2216 West Vernon Ave.

“State Employees’ Credit Union recently purchased the land to serve as a future branch site,” said Jamie Applequist, Chief Administrative Officer. “Planning is in the very early stages and no timeline has been determined. The Credit Union will work with our architect and civil engineer on the design and approval process.”

Credit Unions Online states that the State Employees Credit Union has been open since 1937. It's the largest credit union in North Carolina and the second largest in the United States with assets totaling $42.85 billion and providing banking services to more than 2.49 million members.

The credit union is a member-owned financial cooperative providing banking services including savings, loans, and other financial services to members. Membership is also open to immediate family of current members.
