Letter to the editor: Thanks for the support

See this content in the original post

We would like to offer heart-felt gratitude to our community for supporting this year’s “Wings Over the Neuse,” the major fund-raiser for the CSS Neuse Foundation. The foundation is charged with the responsibility of maintaining, repairing, and improving the historical experience of those who board the CSS Neuse II, the world’s only full-sized replica of a Confederate ironclad.

We are proud of our Board of Directors' efforts in obtaining sponsors, securing volunteer assistance, and spreading the word about our fundraiser by word of mouth, social media, and personal contact. We are also grateful for the media coverage of this event. The success of this year’s “Wings” was a team effort. All the work our board did would mean little if sponsors did not step up and if patrons did not stop by to purchase the wing plates we prepare. This support means the CSS Neuse II Ironclad/Classroom/Museum will continue another year.

We are especially grateful for the members of Galley Crew Cook Team who show up before sunrise for each event. This year the galley crew cooked a record number of wings.  Last year we cooked 24 cases of chicken wings. This year the Crew cooked 29 cases of wings, a number somewhere between 5,800 and 6000 wings. The wings were cooked and seasoned by noon. We sold out at 1:15.  Before every event, our Galley Crew starts with a prayer to God for Country, Galley Crew Safety, our Military, and those in need of God’s assistance.

We have many sponsors who are business owners.  Please look at our Sponsor Listing and try to determine how you can promote and support these businesses.

Once again, we thank this community – each and every one of you – for the tremendous outpouring of support.

Respectfully,

David Mooring, President

Mike Parker, Secretary

CSS Neuse Foundation
