Governor Roy Cooper announced that he appointed Nicholas E. Harvey, Sr. to the Lenoir Community College Board of Trustees as a member-at-large.

“We are all looking forward to working with Mr. Harvey as a member of the Board of Trustees. As a long-standing and well-respected member of our community, he will bring a wealth of experience to the board, and we appreciate his willingness to serve the citizens in Lenoir, Greene, and Jones Counties in this capacity,” said Dr. Rusty Hunt, president of Lenoir Community College.

A past LCC Board of Trustees member, Harvey has had a private law practice handling criminal and traffic law for more than 30 years. In 1981, after law school, Harvey moved to Kinston where he worked for his mother in law and then worked at Caswell Center until 1992.

“I look forward to reconnecting with members of the board and the new president,” said Harvey.

The board reviews the college’s policies, while the president and the administrators keep the board abreast of activities at the college. The board also reviews the budget as presented by the president to approve or deny.

“Everyone on the board is a volunteer, and we take it very seriously,” said Harvey. “The only thing we strive to achieve is what is in the best interest of the college.”

With extensive legal knowledge and a desire to help, Harvey didn’t mind serving when he was called upon to do so.

“I’m an attorney by training. I can look at things analytically,” said Harvey. “I can certainly assess situations with reason and caution and make determinations that will be in the best interest of the college.”

The Lenoir Community College Board of Trustees contains four members appointed by the Governor, four appointed by Lenoir County Board of Education, four appointed by Lenoir County Board of Commissioners, two appointed by Greene County Board of Commissioners, two appointed by Jones County Board of Commissioners, and the Student Government Association President as an ex-officio member.
