Help wanted: Lenoir County Department of Social Services - Staff Development Specialist III

LENOIR COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES STAFF DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST III GRADE: 74 SALARY RANGE: $44,208.58 - $78,010.92

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The primary purpose of this position is to plan, design, implement, coordinate, conduct, and evaluate a flexible agency training program for all agency staff with a primary emphasis on providing in-service training for social workers and supervisors in Adult and Child Protective Services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to adapt to new tasks, formulate ideas, and effectively communicate information in oral and written forms.
Ability to develop and write course outlines, lesson plans, Powerpoint presentations, and curriculums. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to respond appropriately to high stress situations.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in all areas of responsibility.
Ability to interpret and administer federal and State guidelines and apply them to individual programs or situations.
Ability to plan and execute work independently, effectively, and efficiently.
Ability to teach, train, and orient agency staff in an effective and efficient manner.
Considerable knowledge of theory, practices, and principles of human behavior.
Considerable knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies that govern DSS programs and the functions, services, protocols, and procedures of the agency’s programs.
Considerable knowledge of racial, ethnic, or other cultural groups in society, their values and lifestyles. Considerable knowledge of techniques and methods of conducting formal and informal training programs.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and three years of experience in a progressive training or teaching role and at least two years of experience with social work or counseling. Experience must also include organizing training events, assessing needs, counseling and evaluating sessions; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
