Letter to the editor: I have recently endorsed a Democrat

Recently I wrote a Guest Column wherein I expressed my agreement with former Democratic Louisiana Senator Elbert Guillory. In 2013 he left the Liberal Democratic Party in favor of the Conservative Republican Party, citing among other reasons the three liberal lies that 1. All Republicans are racists; 2. Democrats are champions of Civil Liberties; and 3. The Democrats’ agenda is best for Black Americans. My column agreed with Guillory’s reasoning.

Guillory listed three ways we can all expose the Left’s Liberal Lies:

  1. VOTE FOR REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES – LIKE MILLIONS OF US IN 2020 – TO STOP LIBERAL LIES.

  2. ENGAGE THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES AND OFFICEHOLDERS IN YOUR CITY AND STATE.

  3. SPREAD THE CONSERVATIVE MESSAGE TO YOUR FRIENDS.

Even though I endorsed Guillory’s advice, I now find myself needing to explain the following exception: I have recently endorsed Felicia Solomon, a Democrat, who is running for Mayor of Kinston. The obvious question is, how can I support a Democrat while advising us all to vote for Republican Conservative Candidates? The answer lies in the fact that I am neither a Republican nor Democrat, but a registered “Unaffiliated.” I have known Felicia Solomon for many years and have always found her to be a woman of character and good common sense, a person who stands for what is right and acts in the best interests of the common good of all our citizens, regardless of race, creed, or political affiliation.

A fair assessment of my support for Felicia Solomon is that in her instance I am voting for the person and what she stands for rather than a party affiliation. I have and always will vote that way.

By the way, one critic of my column exposing the three Liberal Lies of the Democratic Party has deemed my position as being divisive and not healing for the country. I readily admit that he’s absolutely right! My column is indeed controversial and divisive, for obviously, not everyone believes as I do. But in a larger sense, facts are facts! With all due respect, I choose to let the facts speak for themselves. Senator Guillory was merely telling the truth in exposing the Left’s Three Liberal Lies and the reason he switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party.

In an even larger sense, Guillory and I both are supporting the Words of Jesus, “And you shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).
