Greene Early College has partnered with the Ronald McDonald House in Greenville for their on-going fundraiser initiative, “Pull Together”, which helps support the two houses in Greenville.  The facilities are a “home-away-from-home” for families of children receiving medical treatment on an inpatient or outpatient basis.  The House is a temporary place to stay and is not a treatment facility.

Families are asked to pay $10.00 per night.  But if a family cannot pay, they are not turned away.  Therefore, donations are very important to maintain the houses.  One of their ongoing fundraisers is the collection of aluminum tabs.  These are sold to be recycled.  Depending upon the market for high-grade aluminum, the Ronald McDonald house receives between $0.40 to $0.50 per pound of pop tabs. It takes roughly 1,128 pop tabs to equal one pound.

GEC students have eagerly engaged in this worthy endeavor for the 2021-2022 school year. Since the beginning of the school year, they have collected over 25,000 tabs, pushing for more. Shown above are students,(left), Anamari Zuniga and (right) Rigoberto Facio-Cortes who have contributed 3605 and 4000 tabs, respectively.

The community is also encouraged in the collection process.  Citizens can bring tabs to GEC or call the school (252-747-9044) and arrange for pick up.
