Job Description - Performs skilled technical work supporting the purchasing and contracting of services, supplies, materials and equipment, and related work as required. Work is performed under the supervision of the Purchasing and Warehouse Manager. Essential Functions: Prepares quotes, stocks and maintains inventory; assists with fuel and managing of surplus; maintains, audits, and reports for all fuel usage and ordering; prepares reports. The following functions are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Assists in the work of ordering, receiving, storing and distributing a large and varied stock of equipment, supplies, or parts; works with departments to ensure compliance with purchasing laws and City policies. Prepares quotes and purchase orders for reordering supplies. Assists with departments and accounting personnel on various problems with account numbers, purchase orders, receiving and payment of invoices.

Orders bulk fuel and produces monthly reports for billing, perform weekly and monthly fuel island inspections, makes repairs as needed. Assists in annual inventory. Completes tasks for other positions as needed. Creates credit memo for incorrect shipment or ordering documents. Performs related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of business methods, markets and purchasing practices; Knowledge of the laws related to public purchasing; Knowledge of accounting practices as applied to procurement and inventory control procedures; general knowledge of various grades and qualities of a variety of materials, supplies and equipment used by the City; general knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment; ability to write clear and concise contracts and specifications; ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; ability to plan, organize and review the work of a small staff in performing varied procurement functions; ability to operate personal computer including some knowledge of applicable software packages; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors and the general public.

Education and Experience: Vocational/Technical school with coursework in purchasing, marketing, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 1 year experience preferred.

Special Requirements: Forklift operator certified or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment date.

Physical Demands: This work is sedentary and requires little to no exertion of force; worker is frequently speaking or hearing and occasionally requires standing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions; work has no special vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office with typewriters and/or computer printers, light traffic).
