Murry Stroud began his role as Director for Lenoir County Emergency Services this past week. He announced his new role on Facebook. Stroud has experience in emergency services, EMS, fire-rescue, and public safety telecommunications.

“I’m excited to be back in my hometown of Lenoir County,” said Stroud, who is a 1995 graduate of Kinston High School. “I am ready to get started and keep the emergency services going in the right direction and build on the foundation that has been here before.”

In the 1970s, Stroud’s father had a hand in developing the role when it was called civil defense before emergency services. During his first week, Stroud worked on building relationships and settling into his role.

“Serving in the emergency services field has been very rewarding,” said Stroud. “I take great pride in knowing that I help provide the best leadership, education, and development for those willing to serve others.”

Stroud took over the role after the retirement of Jerri King, who gave 30 years of service to Lenoir County. King’s official retirement date is January 1, 2022.

“We are extremely delighted to have Murry back in Lenoir County,” said County Chair Linda Rouse Sutton. “He started here in Lenoir County, then went on to work with East Care in Pitt County, rising through the ranks gaining an even wider array of experience which he brings to Lenoir County.”

Stroud thought it was a good time to return home.

“He has family roots here and is familiar with Lenoir County as well as has many contacts here,” said Sutton. “We are indeed excited and very fortunate to have him as our new Director of Emergency Services.”
