In 2021, the Department of Public Safety at Lenoir Community College decided to implement a teambuilding activity to complete the necessary training process. The purpose of this project was for the officers to develop leadership skills as a team to reach common a goal, while helping the community at the same time.

Taiquan Uzzell (pictured above, kneeling left), a student in the public safety training and a former student at Greene Early College High School was chosen to serve as a leader for the Lenoir Community College initiative; the implementation of this project was Taiquan’s idea and a requirement for the completion of the course work. The officers decided to agree with the project as set forth by Taiquan when explained the impact that it would have on the target population. The target population for the project was students in high school and taking college courses at the community college.

Having attended Greene Early College, Taiquan chose GEC as its target population and has seen first-hand how community service impacts our local community and how GEC students give back to the community; each student at GECHS is required to have 100 hours of community service as a graduation requirement. As a team, this group successfully collected and donated many items that will be needed by families at GEC as a result of the pandemic.

This group of students realized the need during these uncertain times and collected and donated a plethora of items that students and their families may use or need in an emergency situation. In addition, at the end of their visit. the LCC team sanitized all of the student desks and helped to prepare the classrooms for the next day.
