Young artists from Pink Hill Elementary School swept the top awards in all three elementary-age categories of the 2021 Lenoir County Soil and Water poster contest and the three first-place winners will take their creations on to state competition.

Winners were:

  • Third grade – first, Yorley Yanez; second, Kimberly Price; and third, Jordyn Grace Jones

  • Fourth grade – first, Abiram Tejada; second, Vicente Gonzalez-Guiterrez; and third, Ryleigh Rae Moore

  • Fifth grade – first, Braylon Canady; second, Jethro J. Gonzalez; and third, Cameron Whitfield

Top finishes by Yorley, Abiram and Braylon qualified them for state competition. This will be the second trip to state for Braylon, who won the area contest as a third grader.

“We are so very proud of our students and the level of participation we had in light of our unusual year!” Pink Hill principal Lee Anne Hardy said.

The theme of the 2020-2021 contest is “We all live in a watershed.”
