President of the community college system visits Aerospace and Advanced Manufacturing Center
Thomas Stith, president of the community college system, visited Lenoir Community College Aerospace & Advanced Manufacturing Center Wednesday as part of his tour of all 58 community colleges in North Carolina.
“It gives me the opportunity as president of the community college system to see the work that is carried on each and every day in our 58 community colleges throughout the state,” said Stith.
Matthew Berg, Director of Aerospace & Advanced Manufacturing Center, facilitated the tour and answered any questions that Stith had as he walked through the building with LCC’s President Dr. Rusty Hunt.
“Here at Lenoir Community College, just the outstanding partnership and collaboration with business and industry, it’s just outstanding,” said Stith. “Today provides me an opportunity to see firsthand the good work that is accomplished here at the advanced manufacturing center.”
Stith discussed upcoming budget legislation and the impacts the community colleges will have on the economic growth and stability of the state. He also spoke of a five percent pay increase for faculty of the community college system.
“We are thrilled to have him here today,” said Hunt. “He’s just a fantastic leader. I’ve been fortunate to work with him these last few months pretty closely.”
Per their website, LCC’s Aerospace & Advanced Manufacturing Center at the NC Global TransPark is a one-stop, state-of-the-art facility with advanced training, work-based learning experiences, and space for innovation for students and Industry partners.
“This is a hub for opportunity for individuals in the Lenoir Community,” said Stith.
While on campus, Stith was presented with different items created at the Aerospace & Advanced Manufacturing Center.
