From June 29 to July 2, , the Greene County Middle School Jr Beta Club attended the National Jr Beta Club National Convention at the Swan and Dolphin Convention Center in Disney World. 9 Students, along with their families and team sponsor attended the convention. Students from around the country are invited to attend if they place at their State Level Convention as well as if they want to compete in National Convention Exhibitions.

After winning 1st Place in Technology last year, GCMS was the reigning National Champion and was looking to defend their title. Students also placed in 5 other areas at the State Level and were excited to have the experience. Eight of the students attending were rising 9th Graders  and this would be their last event as GCMS students. Each of the students were able to compete against students from all over the nation and were excited to be able to compete face to face and not virtually.

In April, the Greene County Board of Education recognized their Achievements and approved the trip to Disney as the first Out of State Field Trip and the first field trip to be approved since the start of the Pandemic. After the approval from the board the club went to work on updating their events and raising money to support the endeavor.

The students were also able to share this experience with their families which added a special element to the experience. In the End, GCMS placed 2nd in the Nation in the Technology Competition led by rising 9th grader Rylee and rising 7th grader Reagan Greene. The students also placed 9th in the nation in the National Exhibition Convention Invention led by rising 9th graders Aubrey Beddard and Cole Mersman.

The National Jr BETA club has come alive in the past years and even through the pandemic provided service and leadership at GCMS. The students were eager to represent Greene County with Pride and bring home the recognition for their hard work.

The club is incredibly grateful for the support of the Board, Dr. Patrick Miller, Superintendent; Dr. French Creech, Chief Academic Officer; the Middle School Administration Team led by Principal Diane Blackman.; Snow Hill AutoZone for donating items for the Carwash held; Greene Ridge Racquet Club for allowing them to use their facility for the carwash; Retiring Sponsor Carol Taylor for her support and encouragement. .
