Obituary - Sue Carol Baker Davis

Sue Carol Baker Davis, 88, of Kinston, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021 at UNC Lenoir Health Care. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Arthur Davis, Sr; parents, Robert Earl Baker and Patty Stocks Baker; brother, David Willis Baker, and sister, Addie Ruth Joyner.

Sue Carol lost her beautiful mother Patty at the age of 2 and was raised by her maternal grandmother Mamie Harriet Stocks. They resided in the home of beloved Uncle Tom Mozingo and Aunt Janie Mozingo who loved her as their own. Mamie Harriet would often pick Sue a fresh apple from a nearby orchard in the morning and place a warm brick in her bed at night to keep warm. In her early years, Sue attended a one-room schoolhouse in Willow Green, NC and graduated from Maury High School. James found Sue in Willow Green, NC and told her "I'm going to marry you Tootsie" soon thereafter. Only a 2-year stint in the US Army could keep those 2 apart and the 2 love birds embarked on a trip to South Carolina during Hurricane Hazel to marry and were hitched on October 17, 1954. After a short time they put down stakes on Wallace Family Road in Kinston, NC. She devoted her adult life to her husband, 4 boys, and her many grandchildren. Her family can truly say "Her price is far above rubies, her children arise and call her blessed". Thank you, God, for our beloved mother.

Sue is survived by her sons, James Arthur Davis, Jr. and wife, Jalaine, of La Grange, Timothy Alan Davis, of Kinston, Jeffrey Michael Davis and wife, Carol, of Kinston, and David Edward Davis and wife, Lorie, of Kinston, grandchildren, Michelle Cash, Josh Davis, Jeffrey Davis, Faith Davis, Tyler Whitehurst, Josh Hardison, Jeremy Hardison, Johnathan Inthalansy, Jaime Inthalansy, Cody Smith, and Joshua Smith, and great-grandchildren, Reese Cash, Sloan Cash, Liam Davis, Raleigh Davis, Addie Smith, and Alex Smith.

A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2021 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 with burial following at Westview Cemetery.
