Greene County Schools Opens the 2021-22 School Year

On Monday, August 16, Greene County Schools opened their 2021-22 school year with its annual opening gathering at Greene Central High School. The annual opening of the school year always begins with the introduction of new staff from each school. Dr. Miller welcomed the staff to another exciting year. 

Diane Blackman, Principal of Greene County Middle School, introduced Trisha Garris GCS teacher of the year saying that she was”very dedicated to her students and willing to do anything for our school.”

Garris spoke about the challenges ahead but of the strength of the GCS staff. She talked about the experience teachers faced last year in the midst of the pandemic. The theme of her speech was endurance and perseverance.  Calling GCS staff a family Garris talked about being allowed to go above and beyond and take chances. Garris quotes John Steinbeck “I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that teaching might even be the greatest of all arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit”t o inspire teachers to "be the amazing artists I know we are." 

After her speech. Beta Theta Alpha Delta Kappa sorority recognized Garris for being 

Teacher of the year. Superintendent Miller introduced a special guest tik toker Hey TonyHey Ton. The comedian had a list of things for the teachers and staff. Opening the year with comedy leaving with the phrase "Just have fun!'

Miller closed the meeting by speaking about the work that we do has never been more Important. He emphasized the critical importance of building relationships with your students.
