ROSS CHANCE PIPKIN
JULY 22, 1944 – AUGUST 18, 2021
Ross Pipkin, 77, of Marion, NC and formerly of Kinston died August 18th at the VA Hospital in Asheville, NC.
Ross was the oldest son of the late Robert and Cicely Pipkin of Kinston. Ross graduated from Grainger High School, Class of 1962. Following graduation, he attended NC Wesleyan College and Lees McCrae College to study ministry before being drafted for the war. He entered the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War and was Honorably Discharged in 1967. He worked in photographic intelligence on an aircraft carrier during the war.
Ross spent most of his life serving the Charlotte Mecklenberg Police Department in the Crime Lab and on the bike patrol. He was one of the first Community Police officers and was the winner of the police department’s Community Relations Award numerous times. In his retirement, Ross was a friend to many people in the mountains and enjoyed visiting and helping others.
Ross leaves behind a loving family and close friends. Surviving is his son, Ross Sikora of Asheville, NC and siblings, Penny Craven (the late Michael Craven) of Kinston, Joe (Cora Mae) of Trenton, Wendy Efird (Ronnie) of Norwood, NC, his very close friends, Debra Rector and daughter Danielle of Marion, NC, Nancy Mills of Mint Hill, NC and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many.
