Help wanted: Lenoir County EMS Training Officer
LENOIR COUNTY EMS - EMS TRAINING OFFICER
SALARY RANGE: $38,056 - $57,906.13
Job summary:
This position develops/administers programs and provides training to providers affiliated with the Lenoir County EMS System. This position researches and develops training programs for credentialed and non-credentialed employees in the emergency medical services field. An employee in this class is responsible for administering the day-to-day activities of the EMS training program. Work includes developing and either conducting training classes or contracting for trainers to provide training to departmental personnel.
The employee will be responsible for setting up a computerized continuing education program that includes maintaining comprehensive training records, program records and assisting with interviewing and selecting employees, researching new methods and procedures to improve service delivery to the citizens of Lenoir County. Assures coordinating across shifts and between stations and assists with evaluating field performance of personnel and recommending remedial training where indicated. Works with the Emergency Services EMS Operations Manager, the Medical Director and Lead Field Training Officers to assure staff skills comply with that required by the Medical Director.
Work is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, extremes in temperatures, noise, vibrations, hazards associated with emergency medical work including exposures to fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, poor ventilation, and oils. As a result of the nature of the work, the employee is exposed to human blood and is subject to the OSHA requirements on bloodborne pathogens.
Work is performed under the direct supervision of the EMs Operations Manager and will be evaluated through conferences, observations, reports from the Medical Director, and feedback from citizens and staff.
Abilities required:
• Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
• Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
• Position requires visual acuity for operating an automobile for checking, performing, and maintaining written computer files and reports, monitor site progress, and for responding to an emergency situation while driving a county-issued vehicle, using emergency response when necessary.
• Must possess the visual acuity necessary to administer emergency medical services to the public.
• The work is subject to various hazards such as exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases or poor ventilation
Minimum requirements:
• Associates Degree with coursework in emergency medical services, or related field and extensive experience in emergency medical services
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license
• Three years experience as a Paramedic
• NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800
• NIMS 300 and 400 (or ability to obtain within one year of hire)
• Certified as an NC Level I Paramedic Instructor as approved by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services
• The equivalent combination of education, certifications and experience may be considered in meeting requirements
