Downtown Kinston Revitalization is taking pre-orders for ‘Illuminated’, a coffee table book with images taken by Dr. Laddie Crisp Jr. a physician in Kinston. Local photographer Brandon Potter worked with Downtown Kinston Revitalization to create what he hopes to be the must-have item for the holidays.

“I am honored to work on this project,” said Potter. “As a photographer, I have always appreciated Laddie’s method of painting with light and as a graphic designer putting together the book layout will be very rewarding.”

The coffee table book will be sold for $75 with proceeds going toward the Revitalization of Downtown Kinston.

Downtown Kinston Revitalization Executive Director Leon Steele said, “It’s a must-have!”

Presale copies are available for purchase now until September 30, 2021, and are expected to be available for pickup before the holidays.

“Downtown Kinston Revitalization is excited to share the beautiful work of Dr. Laddie Crisp through ‘Illuminated’,” said Downtown Kinston Revitalization Board member Michelle Davis Cash. “This one-of-a-kind coffee table book will be something that families can pass down to future generations and showcase the love that citizens of Kinston have for our great city.”

Those interested in purchasing ‘Illuminated’ can preorder the book here. Shipping is available for an additional $10.

Crisp said he spent several years taking the pictures. “That project never ends. Most of the pictures are nighttime pictures because it is often dark when I get out of the office. I also love “nocturnes”, my name for late night photography.”

Crisp uses long exposure photography and paints with light to create images that capture his vision.
