Kinston Native Jake Sutton to open for Nelly at MumFest
Kinston Native Jake Sutton will open for Nelly at the MumFest in Downtown New Bern.
“We are super thrilled to open for Nelly as our first show since the pandemic hit,” said Sutton. “One of my memories from middle school was jamming out to songs like ‘Dilemma’ and ‘Shake Ya Tail Feather’ and when he came out with his crossover hit ‘Over And Over’ with Tim McGraw it changed the game.”
MumFest is an event held in historic downtown New Bern. In 2019, 100,000 people attended the festivities. MumFest will be held October 9-10, 2021, October 15-16, 2021 and the MumFest Concert will be October 29, 2021.
“My band has been rehearsing a lot lately and getting ready to get back out on the road,” said Sutton. “We are very excited to play these new songs in our first live show at MumFest.”
Sutton started playing the guitar at an early age after he saw Keith Urban on television.
“How he played guitar was just mesmerizing to me,” said Sutton.
Sutton picked up singing not long after the guitar and performed songs in youth church. He found sports in high school but returned to music in college.
“It’s pretty surreal that we get to share the stage with such a huge name at MumFest,” said Sutton. “My band has been working hard to get back on the road so we are thankful for this opportunity to kick-start us in gear.”
In the future Sutton plans to continue writing, recording and releasing new music. He hopes to reach as many ears as possible.
“While we are stoked about playing MumFest with Nelly, we’re also looking forward to getting back on the road and trying to make a big noise,” said Sutton.
